More Australians Would Rather Own A House Than Get Married

By Rebecca Richmond

According to the latest Westpac Home Ownership Report, the majority of Australians are more concerned with purchasing a home or concluding payments on one they already own than getting hitched or having kids. So, if you’re currently looking for property in Frankston or elsewhere in Australia, you’re not alone!

Of the people who contributed to the study, a whopping 57 per cent said they already owned a home or were getting ready to buy one in the coming year. This is compared to the 8 per cent and 5 per cent (respectively) who had the same plans for marriage and children.

Gail McGrath, who is Westpac’s general manager of retail banking, said in an August 19 statement that the Westpac Home Ownership Report reveals “how important owning a home is to Australians”. She added that the study shows “Australians need advice to help them own their home sooner”.
