Frankston City cleansing and disinfecting blitz

What’s happening?

At least 50 officers have been engaged through the Victorian Governments Working for Victoria program, ensuring those who may have lost their jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are re-engaged in work locally.

Officers performing the cleansing blitz will continue to adhere to social distancing measures as set out by Federal and Victorian Governments.

Why is Council increasing cleaning?

To improve the cleanliness of the city in an effort to combat the COVID-19 virus and to give our community greater confidence in the safety of our city.

In response to the Federal and Victorian Governments announcing restrictions are being eased back, meaning more people will likely be out and about in our community.

Has there been a local COVID-19 outbreak to cause this cleaning blitz?

No. The increased cleansing is not as a result of confirmed COVID-19 cases within the community, rather as a defence measure to ensure the virus cannot spread further within the local community.

What locations/facilities are being cleaned?

The cleansing and disinfecting blitz is in addition to Council’s general cleaning schedule and will focus on hard surfaces in highly frequented areas such as the city centre and shopping strips, parks and open public spaces. Cleaning will focus on:

• Hand rails
• Ticketing machines
• Seating
• Bins
• Traffic light buttons and poles
• Bicycle stands or other street furniture
• Door handles (local businesses may choose to accept or decline this cleaning)

Please note: playgrounds and outdoor public exercise equipment remain closed.

What cleaning products are being used?

For hard surfaces such as footpaths and public seating, Council is using high pressure hot water and in some instances with natural citrus to remove harsh odours. This will ensure no chemicals enter our drainage network or negatively impact on the natural environment.

For other surfaces such as ticketing machine and pedestrian traffic light buttons, teams will be using the eco-friendly and EPA approved Q Form Professional Disinfectant.

What protective wear will the employees be wearing?

Employees undertaking the cleansing blitz will be dressed in navy clothing with high-vis vests (which may have Citywide or Working for Victoria branding) with the following protective equipment:

• Protective glasses
• Gloves
• Wet weather clothing

Employees will not be wearing protective masks unless the personally choose to do so.
